Jewish Communities Say: Defund Islamophobia

76710791_2692631664135078_5291266689239875584_o.jpg

WHEN: Thursday, November 14 | 6:00 PM
WHERE: 575 Madison Ave, New York, NY

As Jews in the US, we are appalled by efforts within our own communities to fund anti-Muslim hate groups, especially in a moment of escalating Islamophobia and white supremacy. Join us for a public teach-in in front of the Jewish Communal Fund (JCF) headquarters as we call our community in to demand that the JCF #DefundIslamophobia. This teach-in will shed light on six hate groups that have received funding from the JCF since 2013, and will be a space for asking questions and building knowledge. Hot chocolate will be served.

The Jewish Communal Fund of NY, a donor-advised fund that contributes to many worthwhile organizations, also funds some of the most virulent Islamophobes in the country -- from Pamela Geller, who writes that Islam is “the most radical and extreme ideology on the face of the earth,” to David Horowitz, who the Southern Poverty Law Center calls the “godfather of the modern anti-Muslim movement.” According to CAIR, this has led the JCF to be the 8th largest philanthropic funder of the American Islamophobic organizations known as the “Islamophobia Network.” Although the JCF supports many commendable causes, that doesn’t justify a single cent going to anti-Muslim hate groups. The JCF has the power – and the obligation – to stop funding Islamophobia. We would rightly demand no funding to antisemitic hate groups. Our demand to defund anti-Muslim hate is no different. We call on the JCF to immediately end its contributions to anti-Muslim organizations.

Friends and comrades, please join us as we tell the JCF to #DefundIslamophobia.
