Who are we?

JVP-NYC believes in justice, equality, and lasting peace for Palestinians and Israelis. We are part of a global movement to challenge oppression of Palestinians and the US policies that support it.

We are one of over 65 Jewish Voice for Peace chapters across the country, and several hundred of the over 200,000 JVP supporters. We are intergenerational, multicultural, Jewish and non-Jewish alike, and committed to transforming ourselves in the service of the work.

What do we do?

  • Challenge corporate and government complicity in violence against Palestinians via actions and campaigns

  • Educate our community through speaking events, films, theater and other forms of political education

  • Speak out against racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism and bigotry and for visions and initiatives of real safety, mutual aid and liberation

  • Partner with groups throughout NYC building movements to resist state violence and oppression

  • Build a vibrant community grounded in values of mutual respect and liberation for all

WHATEVER YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF PALESTINE AND ISRAEL, WHATEVER BACKGROUND AND INTEREST, THERE'S A PLACE FOR YOU IN THIS CHAPTER AND IN THE LARGER MOVEMENT. JOIN US!

WHAT IS THE DEADLY EXCHANGE?

Every year, thousands of the highest ranking police officials and law enforcement executives in the US -- police, ICE, border patrol and FBI agents -- participate in exchange programs with Israeli military and police. Primarily billed as opportunities for U.S. law enforcement to learn counterterrorism tactics from the Israeli military and police, in effect, these programs swap “worst practices” that promote and extend discriminatory and repressive policing in both countries. These exchanges are run by organizations like AIPAC, the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA), the Anti-Defamation League and Birthright Israel.

As a Jewish organization dedicated to safety and justice for all peoples, we see it as our duty to draw the line at these exchanges. We believe that true safety does not come at the expense of the safety of others. We want to join in efforts to expand the definition of sanctuary to mean that all people targeted by aggressive policing – including immigrants and refugees, as well as all people of color, Muslims, trans and queer people – are safe to live their lives.

FIGHT ISLAMOPHOBIA AND RACISM

Islamophobia has a long and terrible history in the United States. In the wake of the 2016 presidential elections and under the Trump administration, the existing systemic discrimination and violence against Muslims - including heightened surveillance, policing, and state violence - has grown worse. President Trump wasted no time in implementing blatantly racist, discriminatory, and Islamophobic policies including bans on Muslim immigrants.

Organizing doesn't need to be dull and colorless. Come spice it up with us! We're always improvising with new and creative ways of inviting people to join the movement and take collective action.

We believe in the wisdom, fierceness, and love of elders in our movement -- as well as and in the power of humor and spectacle to engage, educate, and endear. Join the Bubbie Brigade, a troupe of spunky savtas, babas, nanas and bubbies, as we feed the movement and demand justice for all!
